Overview
The fortified historic town of Harar is located in the eastern part of the country on a plateau with deep gorges surrounded by deserts and savannah. The walls surrounding this sacred Muslim city were built between the 13th and 16th centuries. Harar Jugol, said to be the fourth holiest city of Islam, numbers 82 mosques, three of which date from the 10th century, and 102 shrines, but the townhouses with their exceptional interior design constitute the most spectacular part of Harar’s cultural heritage. The impact of African and Islamic traditions on the development of the town’s building types and urban layout make for its particular character and uniqueness. Awash National park is the best spot to see an important diversity of bird species, Beisa oryx and Ostriches. Apart from the Awash river waterfall and the mesmerizing doho hot springs are the main sites to be discovered.

Itinerary
Day 1: Addis Ababa – Awash
After breakfast, depart from Addis Ababa and embark on a scenic drive to Awash National Park, enjoying picturesque views of the Ethiopian countryside along the way. Upon arrival in the afternoon, enjoy a thrilling game drive through the park in search of iconic African wildlife, including Oryx, baboons, gazelles, and various bird species.
In the evening, check in at the serene Doho Lodge, surrounded by nature. Take a refreshing dip in the natural hot springs and unwind with a delicious dinner at the lodge’s restaurant.

Day 2: Awash – Harar
After breakfast, drive eastward to the historic city of Harar. The journey takes you through diverse landscapes and rural communities, offering insight into daily life in eastern Ethiopia.

Day 3: Harar
Today is dedicated to exploring the fascinating walled city of Harar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit vibrant local markets, the Harari Museum, the home of the French poet Arthur Rimbaud, and the tomb of Emir Nur, the founder of Harar’s protective walls known as Jugol. Experience the city’s rich culture, Islamic heritage, and narrow alleyways filled with colorful homes and history.

Day 4: Harar – Dire Dawa – Addis Ababa (Flight)
After breakfast, drive to Dire Dawa and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at one of the city’s finest traditional restaurants, complete with cultural music, dance performances, and authentic Ethiopian cuisine.
